About agriculture and food sector roles in South Africa

Agriculture remains a significant employer in South Africa, particularly in the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Limpopo. Government agricultural extension officers, veterinary professionals, and food safety inspectors are employed through provincial Departments of Agriculture and the national Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development. The veterinary sector is regulated by the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).

·Veterinary posts require SAVC registration. Include your registration number and category on your CV.
·Agricultural extension officer posts typically require a BSc Agriculture or BTech Agriculture plus field extension experience.
·Food safety inspector roles often require knowledge of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and the relevant SANS standards.
·Government agricultural posts in rural areas frequently have fewer applicants than urban posts, potentially improving your chances of being shortlisted.
