Requirements
Appropriate Mechanical Trade Test Certificate in terms of section 13(2)(h) of the Manpower Act, 1981, as amended. Valid driver's licence. Experience Grade A: At least 0-2 years appropriate / recognisable experience in an area after obtaining the relevant trade certificate Experience Grade B: At least 14 years appropriate / recognisable experience in an area after obtaining the relevant trade certificate. Experience in a hospital or health-care environment will be an added advantage. Knowledge, Skills Training And Competencies Required: Sound knowledge of mechanical maintenance, repairs and installations. Knowledge of HVAC, pumps, boilers, compressors and other hospital mechanical systems. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical faults and breakdowns. Knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and equipment manuals. Knowledge of occupational health and safety and hospital safety requirements. Good problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills. Ability to plan, organise and prioritise maintenance activities. Basic computer literacy and ability to complete maintenance reports. Ability to work independently, under pressure and during emergency breakdowns.
Duties
Perform mechanical maintenance, repairs, servicing and installation of hospital mechanical equipment and systems. Maintain and repair HVAC, ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers and other mechanical plant and equipment. Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance in accordance with approved maintenance schedules. Attend to mechanical breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests promptly. Identify mechanical faults and implement appropriate corrective measures. Inspect mechanical equipment and report defects or potential failures. Ensure that all work is performed according to prescribed technical, safety and quality standards. Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, inspections and equipment condition. Assist with the installation, commissioning and testing of new mechanical equipment. Ensure safe use, care and maintenance of tools, 196 machinery and equipment. Comply with occupational health and safety, infection prevention and control and hospital safety requirements. Work closely with electrical, plumbing, building and other technical personnel to ensure effective hospital maintenance. Assist with monitoring contractors and ensuring that maintenance work is completed according to specifications. Provide technical advice to the supervisor regarding mechanical equipment and maintenance requirements. Perform any other duties delegated by the supervisor.
