About supply chain and procurement roles in South Africa

Supply Chain Management is one of the most consistently advertised fields in South African government, particularly within the context of the Public Finance Management Act and Municipal Finance Management Act which impose strict procurement governance requirements. SCM posts appear across all nine provinces and at all levels of government. In the private sector, SCM and procurement roles are in high demand in retail, mining, and manufacturing.

·Government SCM roles require knowledge of the PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and Preferential Procurement Regulations. Mention these explicitly on your CV if you have experience with them.
·The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) qualification is increasingly recognised by South African employers in both public and private sectors.
·Bid committee experience - serving on a bid specification, evaluation, or adjudication committee - is a significant differentiator for senior SCM roles.
·SCM posts at salary level 7 and above typically require a three-year degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Public Administration.
