About customer service and call centre roles in South Africa

Customer service and contact centre roles are a significant source of formal employment in South Africa, particularly in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. The sector employs large numbers of young South Africans in first formal jobs and provides structured pathways to supervisory and management roles. Many international companies operate South African contact centres to service global clients, offering competitive salaries relative to local entry-level norms.

·For contact centre roles serving UK, US, or Australian clients, a neutral accent and clear spoken English is assessed during interviews or telephonic screens.
·Shift work, weekend work, and public holiday work are standard in contact centre environments. Be clear about your availability before accepting an offer.
·RE5 certification is required for contact centre roles involving insurance advice or financial product sales.
·Supervisory and team leader roles in contact centres typically require at least 12 months of agent experience at the specific operation.
