Requirements
National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or relevant qualification as recognised by SAQA or relevant qualification. Three (3) years post-qualification experience. Compulsory registration with ECSA as an Engineering Technician. Knowledge: Medical equipment maintenance principles. Biomedical instrumentation. Clinical engineering practices. Occupational Health and 123 Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993. Electrical safety standards. Medical device risk management. Health Technology Management principles. Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). National Treasury Supply Chain Management prescripts. Relevant SANS, IEC and ISO standards applicable to medical devices. Hospital infection prevention and control principles. Asset management systems. Preventive maintenance planning. Quality management systems. Competencies: Medical equipment fault finding. Electronic troubleshooting. Biomedical test equipment operation. Preventive maintenance planning. Calibration techniques. Electrical safety testing. Medical gas equipment knowledge. Networking fundamentals for medical devices. Problem solving. Analytical thinking. Planning and organising. Communication skills. Customer service orientation. Teamwork. integrity. Attention to detail. Time management. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to lift and move medical equipment within prescribed occupational health and safety guidelines. Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and CMMS applications. A valid driver's licence.
Duties
Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on medical equipment. Conduct functional performance verification. Inspect equipment for safety and operational compliance. Ensure maintenance is performed according to manufacturer recommendations. Maintain maintenance schedules and service records. Corrective Maintenance: Diagnose equipment faults. Perform repairs on electronic, electrical, electro- mechanical and biomedical equipment. Replace defective components. Verify equipment performance following repairs. Return equipment to clinical service after safety testing. Calibration and Performance Testing: Calibrate medical devices using approved biomedical test equipment. Verify measure
