About teaching and educator roles in South Africa

Teaching posts in South Africa are advertised through provincial departments of education and must be applied for through the relevant provincial education department's HR process, not directly to schools. Registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) is mandatory for all teaching positions. Posts are classified by phase (Foundation, Intermediate, Senior, and FET) and by subject, and your application must match the phase and subject specified in the advert.

·Include your SACE registration number on your CV. Applications without it will not be processed.
·Post level 1 is a classroom educator, post level 2 is a head of department, and post level 3 and above are for principal and deputy principal roles.
·The Funza Lushaka bursary scheme has obligations attached. If you are a Funza recipient, you are required to teach at a school assigned by the department for the same number of years as the bursary.
·Shortage subjects including Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Accounting attract more interview opportunities than general subjects.
