Duties

Ensure the delivery of a safe, efficient, patient-centred, high-quality and cost- effective clinical service that addresses the burden of disease within the Rural West Health Ecosystem by providing comprehensive specialist obstetric and gynaecological services, including the independent and safe performance of major and minor gynaecological surgical procedures. Managing high-risk obstetric patients and specialist gynaecology outpatient clinics, ensuring evidence-based assessment, appropriate management, and continuity of care. Performing and supervising complex obstetric procedures, including assisted vaginal deliveries, breech deliveries, postpartum sterilisations, and complicated caesarean sections. Performing and interpreting obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound examinations and providing clinical supervision and training to junior medical staff in ultrasound practice. Providing clinical leadership, supervision, teaching, mentoring and skills development to medical officers, registrars, interns, and other healthcare professionals to promote high standards of clinical practice. -Ensuring the maintenance of accurate, comprehensive and high-quality clinical records in accordance with legal, ethical and departmental requirements. Complying with all applicable administrative policies, legislation, protocols and prescripts of the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness. Promoting effective and efficient utilisation of human, financial and material resources to support sound financial management and service sustainability. Participating in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, in-service training, continuous professional development, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives. Contributing to the development, review and implementation of clinical guidelines, protocols and standard operating procedures. Participating in specialist outreach services to district hospitals within the Rural West Health Ecosystem to strengthen service delivery, clinical support and capacity building. Participating fully in the provision of termination of pregnancy services in accordance with applicable legislation, ethical standards and departmental policies.
