About engineering roles in South Africa

Engineering professionals are in strong demand across both the public and private sectors in South Africa. Government departments including Public Works, Water and Sanitation, and Transport regularly advertise engineering posts at municipal and national level. In the private sector, mining, manufacturing, and infrastructure remain the largest employers of engineers. Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) is required for senior engineering roles in the public service.

·For government engineering posts, include your ECSA registration status and registration number on your CV.
·Engineering roles in the public sector are graded at salary levels 11 to 14, which correspond to Assistant Director to Director level.
·Mining engineering roles typically require experience in a specific commodity such as gold, platinum, or coal. Tailor your CV to the specific operation.
·Graduate engineer positions often prefer candidates with exposure to local conditions and South African infrastructure standards.
