About security and protection roles in South Africa

The security industry is one of South Africa's largest private sector employers. All security officers must be registered with PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) - working without a valid PSIRA registration is illegal. Security roles range from armed response and access control to senior security management. Government security posts, particularly at strategic facilities, require additional vetting and security clearance.

·Always include your PSIRA registration number, grade, and expiry date on your CV. Applications without this for security roles will be immediately disqualified.
·A Grade A or B PSIRA certificate is required for supervisory and management security posts.
·Government security posts may require a security clearance at Secret or Top Secret level depending on the facility.
·Armed response roles require a firearms competency certificate for the specific firearm type, issued under the Firearms Control Act.
