About finance and accounting roles in South Africa

Finance professionals are in consistent demand across the South African public and private sectors. The National Treasury, Auditor-General's office, and all provincial treasury departments regularly advertise financial management and accounting posts. In the private sector, CA(SA) qualification holders remain among the most sought-after professionals in the country. Many public sector finance roles require knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).

·For government finance roles, experience with PFMA compliance and BAS (Basic Accounting System) is highly valued.
·SAICA, SAIPA, and CIMA designations should be prominently listed on your CV with registration numbers and status.
·Junior finance roles in government are typically graded at salary levels 6 to 8 and require a relevant three-year degree or diploma.
·Internal audit roles in the public sector require knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
